WAR Herald Update: PvE Dungeons - Part 2 Print News | Category: Game News
Part 2 of Mythic's dungeon review contains a write up on both Gunbad, Bastion Stair, Warpblade Tunnels, and Bloodwrought Enclave.
Here's what the review has to say about Gunbad. Gunbad Tunnels
The Gunbad Tunnels consist of three wings, and are suitable for a group of 6 characters between 23rd and 27th level.
Entrance Location
The entrance to the Gunbad Tunnels is in the northwestern portion of the Badlands.
"I's gots betta fings ta do den go ta Gunbad 'n scrap wif a buncha Gobbos! Youse tell Grumlok dat he can come down 'ere and kill me 'imself if 'e wants to. I ain't budgin'!"
-- The final words of Warlord Heava Sixtoes, as overheard by Grumlok
Theme
Night Goblins, considered to be mad by most civilized peoples, infest the tunnels of Mount Gunbad like deranged parasites. In their delving, the Goblins have discovered many amazing funguses, yet they have also uncovered the remnants of the Mourkain Necromancers. In this sense, the Gunbad Tunnels have been made even more dangerous, and woe betide the adventurers who dare to enter the dark place.
"Da humies is comin'? Drink up dat fungus beer, boys, and do it right quick! We's gonna 'ave a party!"
-- Coffa Flemspor, Night Goblin Shaman
Check out the review on the WAR Herald for more info on Bastion Stair, Warpblade Tunnels, and Bloodwrought Enclave.

 | | | | | Gamespy 2008 Game Awards featuring Warhammer Print News | Category: General
Gamespy have posted their game awards for the past year. Good ol' 2008 brought us a lot of games and WAR features in Gamespy's awards more than a couple of times :)
PC Top 10
War comes in 2nd to Fallout 3 in GameSpy's PC Top 10
Mythic Entertainment's vision for Warhammer Online was surprisingly simple. Take the brilliant realm vs. realm combat of its own Dark Age of Camelot, add it to the over-the-top insanity of the Warhammer Fantasy universe, and build an MMO built around brilliant PvP combat that minimizes the most tedious PvE and leveling aspects. While that was easier said than done (as evidenced by the game's troubled development history) the result was more than worth the wait. Warhammer Online's wonderful world of unbridled player slaughter hit the ground running in 2008 with one of the best MMO launches we've seen in a long time.
Gamer's Choice
Didn't do as well as I know we all would have liked here, that's our fault for not voting though ;) 7th in Gamespy's Gamer's Choice award!
Warhammer Online grabbed a lot of attention this year, and we're certainly playing it here at GameSpy, but fans made it clear that World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online were MMOs closer to their hearts. Warhammer rolled in at number seven on the chart, well behind the others.
Overall Top 10
2nd in the Overall Top 10, not too shabby if you ask me :)
From the start, Warhammer Online had some big boots to fill. On the one hand, you've got millions of fans of the miniatures and RPG games worldwide. Their expectations were astronomical. Then you've got the notoriously fickle MMO crowd, fans who can be fiercely loyal but who will nitpick every design decision and balance issue. Warhammer Online is a fantasy MMO that launched into a crowded market, dominated by a fan-favorite with over 11 million subscribers. In short, it wasn't good enough for Warhammer Online to be good. This sucker had to be great.
You can read up on all the award categories and results for 2008 at the Gamespy Awards Home Page.

TOK: The Importance of Presence Print News | Category: Comics
The folks over at The Tome of Knowledge have a new comic up that has received an endorsement from Josh Drescher. The new comic and companion blog entry take a look at the approach of the Mythic Dev team and their presence on various fan site forums and the possible origins of WAR itself.
In addition, their response times to fanbase outcrys have been absolutely incredible. In a matter of months after release, they responded to several outcrys of lack of likeable tanks Order side, lack of public quest involvement, poor server populations, and most recently, the sudden importance of open RvR. And BOY have the players responded with the oRVR. In the past 2 weeks, I have captured more BOs and more Keeps than my entire time of playing WAR. A great response on Mythic’s part and a HUGE step toward WAR being a hugely popular mass market MMO. You can find the rest of the article at the blog Tome of Knowledge.

The biggest present under the Christmas tree has no name on it! Everyone from Mythic, to us, to WHA, to the big bloggers are eying it in the hopes of sneaking away with it. Considering Christmas cheer, this doesn't go too well and ends up in a bit of an egg nog bash!
Who, and why, do you think will win and walk away with the present (and perhaps a few bruises ;))?!
Question:
Christmas Fight Poll! A battle of the big names...Who would win?!
Choices:
Option 01: Swanny
Option 02: Mark Jacobs
Option 03: Paul Barnett
Option 04: One of those sneaky Community Managers ><
Option 05: Snafzg
Option 06: White Lion
Option 07: Witch Elf
Option 08: Swanny
Option 09: Garthilk
Option 10: Syp
A bit of fun never hurt anyone :)

Happy Holidays and an Update from Mark and his team! Print News | Category: Game News
Mark has posted an update and well wishes to all in the community on our Warhammer Boards....
Folks,
As we head into the holiday season here’s a quick update on where we stand plus a little bit of holiday cheer.
As the community knows, our engineering team has been focusing on a number of key issues that have been affecting WAR over the last few weeks. These issues include crashes-to-desktop (CTDs), fortress crashes and lockup issues when exiting scenarios and at certain loading screens. I’ve got some great news to report on all of these fronts. Over the last few weeks we’ve gone a bit overboard in the number of patches that we have been making to both the client and servers in order to resolve these issues quickly, especially before the end of the year. Sometimes we have announced these patches but sometimes these patches were done quietly while we tested out some of them on individual servers. The results of these efforts by the team and these patches have been quite wonderful and I’m happy to be able to talk about them now.
Our client crashes (CTDs), are now at their lowest point at any time during development or since we’ve gone LIVE. Over the last couple of weeks we cut the number of CTDs down by 75% across all players in North America. In terms of fortress takes and their affect on server stability, we have had only one server that has crashed due to a fortress take in North America since Monday (and that was on a server that had the older code). While this is not a guarantee that we have solved all the issues, the fact is that the fixes we have made have resulted in numerous fortress assaults and lots of exciting open RvR action. Finally, in terms of client lockups, we have fixed the problems that came about after the 1.1 patch and we will continue to work on this issue with additional patches today and tomorrow. While I know that this has resulted in a bit more patching during the week than is usual for us, the results have been well worth it. All of these improvements have and/or are being sent to our partner GOA for rapid deployment for our European players.
And now for some more holiday cheer! Starting today we are going to be speeding up the leveling curve in WAR for a few weeks. We’re going to increase the rest experience multiplier bonus in a hotfix today as well as reducing the time that it takes you to earn rested xp while logged out of the game, especially in Tiers 3 and 4. This will result in players’ time to level being approximately 10% faster in Tier 2 and 20% faster in Tiers 3 and 4. We hope you enjoy the changes and have a great holiday season as you speed through the tiers faster than ever before!
As always, we thank you for your patronage and support.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Mythic Entertainment. Please have a safe and fun holiday season whether your travels are in our Warhammer world or in the real world.
Mark
Read Mark's posts and join in the discussion and well wishing on our Warhammer Boards!
Thanks Mark, and Happy Holidays to all at Mythic :)
May 2009 be your best year ever! :)
