We update our site development list almost daily with additions to features, changes, and include new things on our to-do list.  Keeping members informed of where the site and the guild stands is important to us!

To-Do List:

  • Create list of features & rights for different member groups.
  • Plan official launch event.
  • Move games into arcade categories.
  • Revamp display and use of Highslide in the Gallery. (10% complete)
  • Skin Email section to match site. (50% complete)

 Development Updates:

  • July 25-28:  Took a couple of days off to visit with family! Helped with JFusion 1.0.7 Alpha testing and deployment to public, and installed/deployed on this site - successfully I might add. There may be some bugs that will be ironed out in the coming weeks, so please be patient with any account related issues.
  • July 22-24:  Worked with JFusion team on the SVN copy of their software integration package, testing and squashing bugs. Assisted with English language file. Tested fully wrapped forums on TAO, which seem to work well so far (few bugs left to deal with). The visual integration is IFrame'd, but is really appealing to the eye.
  • July 21:  Corrected the issue with the images inset position, and re-enabled it. Posted inset image for site Positions article, and moved gallery thumbs insets to other pages. Called in and was given refund for unused time at old host (man that felt good!). Enabled PM colorization (Marked, Replied, From Friend, From Foe). Fixed some bugs with Prime Post Revisions (forum mod). Installed "The Wall", a profile comment tracking forum feature. Installed "Poster of The Month" feature in the forums.
  • July 20:  Installed a few more modifications to the forums today: Bot Blocker, Total Users in Forum, Forum Favorites, Post Milestone Congrats, Prime Subject Check updates. Closed down the old Host and removed all files. Several misc theme tweaks. Fixed DNS routing issue with www base. Added several hundred more games to the Arcade (over 2,300 total games now).
  • July 19:  Created new Staff Positions Inset graphic for main page. Wrote article to go with it with all site positions listed. Added in complete set of AUStralian server forums with appropriate permissions. Locked release server forums, as they aren't in use yet. Encountered some strange issues while working on site content - turns out the server move prompted an htaccess rewrite error that support at the host had to fix. Discovered a layout error for IE users, disabling front page gallery images until a fix is found.
  • July 18:  Finished writing the forum rules, link is in the Announcements & Info forum (to be moved to the menu at a later date). Created General Information global announcement for the forums, includes links to site resources (will need future updates and additions). Wrote announcement on Member Pages (My Pages) for character profiles, artwork, stories, etc by members. Dropped a themed site header onto the forums until the CMS/Forum integration package is ready.
  • July 16-17:  Did some investigation into server performance and availability issues. Turns out the webhost was falling to pieces, with major outages, CPU spikes, downed services, etc. Took this opportunity before launch to source out a new Host (the best in the industry based in the continental US), and purchased a new home for the site. Moved all the files, databases, email accounts, etc on over and did testing on the new site. It is like night and day - the new site is so fast and reliable I can't imagine why we never moved here in the first place.
  • July 15:  Did some theme work on the profile display when viewing topics (needs more work). Installed a User/IP access tracker for the more sensitive forums with restricted access.
  • July 14:  Upgraded the new Subject Check mod for the forums - now it will quietly suggest other topics as possible places to post (during topic creation) instead of making an entirely new thread.  Did more graphics and theme work for the forums, along with reordering profile info next to posts.  Fixed the forum's profile hover display and adjusted info shown.  Found and squashed a pretty major display bug in the forums, with regards to subforums and unread messages.
  • July 13:  More Arcade cleanup and forum theme fixes.  Did complete writeup on TAO: The Legacy (about TAO), and TAO's Warhammer Online Charter (our WAR goals, guidelines, structure and ranks, and rules).
  • July 12:  Created Arcade Tiers/Categories/Groups and assigned all Arcade access permissions. Devised method for members to move up through the Arcade Tiers as postcount rises. Sourced and installed over 1,700 games to the Arcade testing area for later distribution.
  • July 11:  Subject Check mod installed in the forums (to help cut down on duplicate topics). Relative date mod installed in forums for easier post date reading.
  • July 09:  Finished the Event Registration mod install and tested. Installed mod database tracker for the forums (phpBB). Other misc forum work completed along with some cleanup and fixes.
  • July 08:  Installed several mods in the forums, including one for members that allows for multiple personalized pages (for whatever content the user wants shown). Integrated the Advanced BBCode 3 mod into the MyPage mod (user pages). Began install on an event registration mod.
  • July 07:  Worked on the Arcade portion of the site a bit - adding in new games, testing, coming up with a structure and access system for members to use at different levels of play.
  • July 06:  Finished theming/tweaking calendar/event system. Installed optional Gender system in forums.  Updated to-do list. Revised TAO Ranks list to accommodate 10 total guild ranks. Created Forum Rules structure and started to fill them in. Installed a few more nice modifications for the forums. Created some needed subforums for additional topic types. Set permission levels on all existing forums for all group types.
  • July 05:  Installed about 15 new forum modifications, and did a bunch of theme work for them.
  • July 04:  Upgraded the new events calendar to the latest revision.
  • July 03:  Made the decision to switch from a Joomla-based to a phpBB-based Calendar/Events system. The display is more advanced, and group control is light years ahead. Requires no special setup to allow all registered members to utilize the calendar, even for group-type events. Installed the new phpBB calendar system.
  • July 02:  (2 of 2) Installed a new forum posting interface, called Advanced BBCode 3 (looks very much like the MS Word button bars) and patched/tested. Installed a PM "read receipt" so that you can check your outbox and see if the message recipients have read their message yet. Installed a topic rating system for specific forums enabling people to vote on (rate) topics with a graphical stars interface (it's really slick).
  • July 02:  (1 of 2) Did more theme work, this time concentrating on colors for forums, forum icons, and the overall look and balance of forum color. Determined that it may be possible to implement multiple site themes as originally planned (woot!). Implemented "Legacy" group for the site's official kickoff - anyone joining/posting within X days of our launch will be added to this group and awarded a special site rank for the life of their account.
  • July 01:  Did a massive amount of theme work on the forums, particularly the index page (categories) and the topic pages (thread lists in forums). Added in a new set of nice topic icons and enabled use of them for all registered members. Bundled together two forum mods that I didn't think would work (but do now!): forum sorting - so you can drag forums and drop them where you want them to stay, and collapsable categories. Both use cookies to save data and are non-intrusive.
  • June 30:  Enabled "dotted topics" display in the forums (users can see easily which threads they have posted in with a graphic icon). Created new icon set for the new dotted topics display. Installed and tested a trading-feedback system for the server forums, which works a lot like Ebay's system of Positive/Neutral/Negative feedback for a thread between buyer and seller. Created placeholder server forums with icons. Installed a new system that allows users to have up to five different ranks in addition to their normal posting rank.
  • June 29:  Installed a really cool new feature to the forums - the ability to drag and drop forums in their categories, so you can have them ordered how you want them. Installed post revision archive mod - keeps copies of posts that have been edited for review by authors/admins/mods so they can see the changes made.  Fixed a php edit error that caused the forum search page to malfunction.
  • June 28:  Installed two new forum systems: 1) A system to tag forum Trolls and make their lives harder, including publicly tagging them with a special rank and avatar. This is as an alternative to a permanent ban for 1st time offenders. 2) A topic and post deletion system that moves threads to the Graveyard forum for review later (instead of permanent deletion). Fixed awhole bunch of problems with the gallery and random image display.  Added in virtually all of the official screenshots to 2006/2007/2008 gallery categories and created PicLens links for them all (PicLens truly rocks).  Click a blue arrow on any gallery image to fire it up and be amazed.
  • June 27:  Installed and tested Arcade module with a few demo games. phpBB Schema corrected to fit with official conventions. DB tables optimized. Sourced several game download sites for populating the arcade fully.
  • June 26:  Worked on the random image bar from the gallery, improving the look/feel and functionality with Highslide. Setup horizontal adsense bar for anonymous visitors (logged in members see no ads at all - a great incentive to register). Highslide installed and verified working for entire site (J! & wrapped pages). Tested YouTube functionality in Gallery - working.
  • June 25:  More theme work on the forums to smooth out the look and feel. More mods installed (Char name/class/server tracking fields) for profile customization. Installed and tested post-count limited (view/post) forum modification for special forums.
  • June 24:  Installed some more forum mods, including mark read/unread for posts and pms, and realtime attachment updating. Designed some graphics to integrate both. Also setup some basic forum structure for WAR and moderation/testing stuff, complete with forum icons and standard permissions.
  • June 23:  Installed a bunch more modifications for the forums, of a larger and more impactive type. Installed a shiny new medals and ribbons system (forum based) for member awards and recognition. Installed a ranks page on forum.
  • June 21:  Installed 8 more forum mods & tested. Revamped method of theme integration to be more permanent. Created and installed forum and thread icons for all types of activity. Corrected a myriad of errors and omissions in the forum theme template, including some replacement graphics.
  • June 20:  Installed 15 phpBB3 modifications to the forums for enhanced features and interface. Created and installed both standard (post count) forum ranks/images, and special forum ranks/images. In total it comes to 38, whew!
  • June 19:  Spent some more time on server-side optimization, making sure fastcgi was correctly configured. Tweaked php.ini for speed. Tested new Firefox 3 with site - highly recommend this browser over any other! Revamped the menu layout a bit, and switched to a "Suckerfish" type of operation in lieu of the fancier (but slower) MooMenu. Suckerfish doesn't require javascript, and looks identical. Filled out the Links section of the site, everything ranging from official WAR sites, to WAR fansites, to WAR resources and general MMO resources like name generators.
  • June 18:  Did more optimization research and testing/tweaking for the site's portal software. Put up high-res scans of the CE pre-order box on front page news.
  • June 17:  Did performance and SEO testing, investigation, and followed up with several portal tweaks and a patch to the software. Also investigated poll modules and tradeoffs of hosted inline solutions. Forum CSS altered to match portal theme. Custom forum graphics tested and tweaked to work with hover graphic.
  • June 16:  Forum buttons completely revamped, numerous errors in theme corrected. Additional theme changes and tweaks made to forum layout and presentation. Forum theme revamp underway. Will be changing CSS colors, and replacing/updating all relevant icons and other graphics in the next day or two.
  • June 15:  phpBB configuration is mostly in place. Skeleton forum for testing posts is ready. Sourced roughly 50 phpBB mods for enhancing the forums.
  • June 14:  Forum work underway, registration remains closed until phpBB<->Joomla bridge software module is in place.
  • June 13:  Forum theme and image set sourced to match site theme.
  • June 12:  Forum bridge decided upon, will enable use of phpBB and bi-directional logging in/out for sitewide access.
  • June 11:  Site-wide RvR alert system configured, themed and tested for guild members.
  • June 08:  PHP-enabled chat system installed/tested and configured. Uses phpBB account info, which will influence forum choice.
  • June 05:  Gallery module in place, random image header 80% complete and tested.
  • June 04:  Popular Tags Cloud and RSS Feeds enabled in bottom rotator module.
  • June 03:  Guild-only calendar installed and tested (beta code) for guild and alliance events.
  • June 01:  Site-integrated email access/accounts for guild members installed and tested. Needs skinning (as do most other addons).
  • May 30:  Site-wide theme picked to match WAR's color scheme (commercial/professional theme acquired).
  • May 27:  Joomla! 1.5.3 installed on server space, configured for barebones development, tested.
