Who or What is TAO?
Written by Jaga

The Arcane Order, also known as "TAO", is a group of individuals that share a common pastime:  computer games and gaming online.  We can be found in MMOGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Games) such as the upcoming Warhammer Online, single-person games like Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights, and following other pursuits as we find the time.

Welcome TAO's Newest Member!
Written by Jaga

TAO's newest member "Chaz" join our ranks today - we wanted to make sure he felt right at home being one of the early and new recruits for Warhammer: AoR, who wasn't part of the old guild(s).  Chaz comes to us from WoW, and plans on following the White Lion's career.

Welcome!!

TAO Website Under Construction
Written by Jaga

Welcome to The Arcane Order!

Please bear with the dust as we complete work on our new Guild website.  We will be integrating new features and content daily, and welcome those people who are interested in joining us for Warhammer Online this coming fall!

We are accepting membership applications, and will be building up our ranks throughout the summer and early fall in preparation for WAR's launch.  If you have experience with websites, php, mysql, phpbb, joomla, moderation of forums, graphic design, or any combination of the above, we would gladly welcome your involvement in building our new home.  If you are interested in becoming a member, see below for a contact email address.

TAO is a US/EU/Canada based gaming guild, that will be predominately Order with a touch of RP and a bunch of RvR tossed in for Warhammer Online.  Yes - we ARE considering opening a Destruction branch of the guild on another server, but need to gather the required people first and discuss the logistics of doing so.

We pride ourselves in being a well-rounded and balanced guild with members of all types that strive to support each other and have fun doing so.  We have played many games in the past, and ultimately this site will server to re-establish all different branches that TAO members follow, for whatever MMO they play.

Be sure to visit our Website Development Status article to keep on top of progress for our Guild's new home!  Inquiries and other stuff can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your time here during our development!

WAR: Behind the Career System - Part 1
Written by Jaga

Warhammer Online will employ one of the most interesting class systems in any MMORPG to date when they debut in the Fall. In part one of this two-part series, Jon Wood speaks to Mythic's Adam Gershowitz about the three ideas that formed the backbone of the careers design.

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Adam Gershowitz, the Combat and Careers strike team lead over at EA Mythic’s Warhammer Online. During the interview, we talked about the classes in Warhammer (known as Careers) and what went into the overall design process in bringing them to life.

The Warhammer Online careers system has gone through an evolution since the game was announced, moving from an extremely complex system when the game was first announced, to the complex and interesting but ultimately more understandable system that we have today and will see at launch.

There are 24 careers in total: four for each of the six races in the game. This in and of itself is a unique decision. More traditional MMOs like World of Warcraft don’t tie their classes to their races. A Paladin, for example, is a Paladin regardless of what race he / she may belong to. Not that there’s anything wrong with that system, but Warhammer takes careers in the opposite direction. If you’re a Bright Wizard, you’re Empire. If you’re an Ironbreaker, you’re a Dwarf.

50 Tidbits from Gamesday 2008
Written by Jaga

The following article is from the Waaagh Blog at Wordpress, and relates to the material covered at the recent Games Day 2008:

This past Saturday, Baltimore hosted Games Day 2008, an event at which EA Mythic attended to further spread the word of Warhammer. Here are the 50 most interesting tidbits I gathered from the show (much thanks to Book of Grudges for prompting me to do this):
  1. Attendees were given closed beta codes and a code for an in-game item on release.
  2. The White Lion will be playable in beta after two more rounds.
  3. Blood red dye is only available to players with high renown rankings.
  4. Black Guards were given little to no new info and were not playable.
  5. Iron Breaker and Engineer classes were playable, following their revamps.
  6. Banner scraps can be turned in for rewards.
  7. Each server will give you 10 character slots, all from the same faction (Order or Destruction).
  8. Currently, squigs and lions are not nameable, but Mythic wants them to be.
  9. The top 10 renown PvP guilds get their heraldry displayed in or near the guild taverns.
  10. Marauders have debuffs they can throw on casters or melee that, when their skills are used, causes them to take damage.
